Track what your family owns, understand how everything fits together, and preserve the knowledge the next generation will need.
“Long-term global equity. Not for trading. Expected holding period: decades. If you inherit it, don't panic in a crash.”
The problem
Families accumulate complexity by accident. A pension here. A house there. An ISA. A company. A trust. Eventually somebody has to work it all out — usually at the worst possible moment.
The numbers exist. The map doesn't.
Five things, in the order families actually need them.
Cash, investments, property, pensions, businesses, trusts and debts in one view — not eleven apps.
What each thing is, who owns it, where it sits, why it exists and what should happen to it.
Financial knowledge should not live in one person’s head. Bring a partner and children in, at their own level.
Wills, executors, beneficiaries and access — documented long before anyone urgently needs them.
Assets survive generations. The reasoning behind them usually doesn’t. Write it down where it belongs.
The knowledge layer
Most software records that an account exists and what it's worth. FamilyVaults also records why it exists, how it works, and what the next person should do with it.
Assets survive generations. Intent usually doesn't.
Why this exists
Opened in 2016 as a long-term global equity portfolio. The intention is not to trade it. Expected holding period is decades. If you inherit it, don't panic during market crashes.
How this family thinks about saving, debt, risk, work and inheritance.
The trust, the company and the pensions, explained in plain English.
Estate planning shouldn't begin after somebody dies. FamilyVaults helps families put this in order while everyone is still around to explain it.
The family
A partner sees the whole picture. A teenager sees what a trust is and why it exists. An adviser sees only what you share with them. Everyone gets their own view of the same record.
FamilyVaults doesn't replace your advisers. It helps your family understand what they've built — and makes every adviser conversation shorter.
Why I built it
“I wanted a clean way to track my own net worth. Then I realised the bigger problem wasn't knowing what I owned — it was making sure my family understood it too.”
I wanted my children to eventually know what they'd been left, where it came from, why it existed and what they were supposed to do with it. Nothing did that, so I started building it. I'm documenting the whole thing publicly as I go.
Start with one asset. Most households have their whole picture in place within a weekend.
